1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the ReadLume app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
ReadLume lets you import web novels and PDFs, listen to them with text-to-speech narration, follow along with word-level highlighting, and sync your reading progress across devices. Features may change, improve, or be discontinued over time.
3. Eligibility & your account
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use ReadLume. You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
4. Subscriptions, free trial & billing
- Free trial. Paid plans begin with a 3-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins and the plan fee is charged.
- Billing. Subscriptions are processed by our payment provider, Paystack. Plans renew automatically (monthly or yearly) until cancelled. We do not collect or store your full card details; these are handled securely by Paystack.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from your account settings in the app or by contacting us. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds. Refund requests are handled by us in accordance with our refund policy; email hello@readlume.app.
- Free use. Reading your own PDFs and EPUBs is free and does not require a subscription.
- Price changes. We may change prices; changes apply to future billing periods and we'll provide notice where required.
5. Your content & responsibilities
ReadLume is a tool for reading and listening to content you have the right to access. You are solely responsible for the links and files you import and for ensuring you have the necessary rights to use them. Do not use ReadLume to access, copy, or distribute content in violation of any third party's rights or any applicable law or website terms.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to infringe others' rights;
- Reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service;
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our permission;
- Circumvent usage limits, security, or access controls.
7. Intellectual property
The ReadLume name, logo, app, website, and underlying software are owned by ReadLume and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Content you import remains owned by its respective rights holders.
8. Third-party content & services
The Service may interact with third-party sites, content, and providers (including text-to-speech and app-store services). We are not responsible for third-party content or practices, and your use of them may be subject to their terms.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that narration or imports will always be accurate or available.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReadLume and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold ReadLume harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms or others' rights.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts located there, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
