1. Overview
ReadLume ("ReadLume", "we", "us") provides an app that imports web novels and PDFs, narrates them with text-to-speech, and keeps your place across devices. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect and how we use and protect it when you use our app and website (the "Service"). By using ReadLume, you agree to this policy.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address and authentication details when you create an account or join the waitlist.
- Content you add. The web-novel links and PDF files you import, along with related metadata (titles, chapters). Your imported content is stored to power your personal library.
- Reading activity. Your library, reading progress, bookmarks, and playback preferences (voice, speed, pitch), so you can pick up where you left off across devices.
- Device & usage data. Basic technical data such as device type, operating system, app version, and how features are used, to operate and improve the Service.
- Diagnostics & crash data. When the app encounters an error, we collect crash reports and performance diagnostics to fix problems.
- Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by our payment provider, Paystack. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not collect or store your full payment card details.
3. How we use your information
- Provide, maintain, and sync your library, progress, and narration.
- Authenticate you and secure your account.
- Process trials and subscriptions and prevent abuse.
- Diagnose problems, monitor stability, and improve features.
- Respond to your support requests.
- Send essential service messages and, only with your consent, product updates. You can opt out of marketing email at any time.
4. How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run ReadLume, under contracts that limit their use of it, including:
- Cloud hosting & database, to store your account, library, and synced progress.
- Text-to-speech providers, to generate narration audio from text you choose to listen to.
- Crash & performance monitoring, to capture diagnostics when something breaks.
- Payment processing, Paystack processes subscription payments and holds the associated payment records.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice where required).
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
6. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage much of this in the app, or email hello@readlume.app and we'll help. You may also unsubscribe from marketing messages using the link in any such email.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to notify you of incidents where required by law.
8. Children's privacy
ReadLume is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International data transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than yours. Where we transfer data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable law.
10. Third-party content and links
ReadLume lets you import content from third-party sources and may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those third parties; their policies govern your use of them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here with an updated "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
